It's Getting Warmer in Price

The handsome fellow at the top of this blog entry is my youngest brother, Douglas. He is a professional artist and is currently living and doing his art in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has a distinct style of his own. Instead of pictures, they are called "Masks." They are a form of ceramic, requiring being baked at 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit. He tried to explain the process in detail, but I am the type of learner who needs to "see" and "watch" something being done rather than trying to picture it in my mind. In an email message the other day, he informed me that he has taken over 30,000 pictures of his work. This weekend he is taking part in a large art show similar to the Park City Art Show, which he has also attended in years past. His work is, admittedly, rather impressionistic; but, then, so is his personality (as may be perceived by the photo of himself that he included with several examples of his work).
Anyway, he is planning to attend the Taylor Family Reunion this year, if everything works out for him. He's had some health problems recently but has been feeling better and stronger. I just hope the art show doesn't wear him down too much.
The weather here in Price is rather warm, just like it seems to be throughout the Inter-Mountain West. By the end of June, Gloria and I will have made five or six trips "over the mountain" for one reason or another -- birthdays, marriages, family travel, etc. With the price of gas, I hope we don't end up in the poor house.
Through Gloria's efforts, the kitchen floor re-grouting and tile laying is now complete. Two windows have new shades, some cabinet finishing work is done, the basement has been cleaned up and a number of items disposed of via a yard sale or a trip to DI, the vegetable garden has been prepared, planted, and almost ready to start producing a few items like peas and beats, etc. In addition to that she has her regular day job at the high school, and she has responsibilities in the ward. And finally, she has the regular cooking, cleaning, washing, vacuuming, etc., etc.
The bad part about the foregoing is the fact that I am unable, physically, to do much of anything to help and support her. I must admit, however, that I need to repent and do better because I can do some lighter chores; like doing dishes, cooking some light meals, and keeping things looking a little more tidy around the house. I will do better!
Well, it's getting late. Gloria had to go to a wedding reception at the Elk's Lodge tonight. Not because she wanted to, really, but because the mother of the groom works with her and she felt that she should support her, at least.
I'll make another post soon. Chou for now. Roger
